Billy R. "Bill" Ellis Obituary
Services for Billy R. "Bill" Ellis, 81, of Abilene, formerly of Sweetwater, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 12, 2016 at Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Jerry Payne and Rev. Clay Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Visitation will be on Friday evening, Mar. 11, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
He died on Saturday, Mar. 5, 2016 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born on Oct. 24, 1934 in Sweetwater. He married Nancy Flickinger on June 18, 1980 in Sweetwater.
He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church and a life-long resident of Sweetwater. He was a livestock auctioneer from 1961 to 2003 (over 43 years). Bill was active with the West Texas Rehab in different capacities for many years. He bought cattle at FFA and 4-H shows and held benefit auctions for FFA and 4-H. Bill loved to go dancing especially when the band played "Waltz Across Texas" when they saw he and Nancy walk in. Bill and Nancy were known and loved by many. He will be missed tremendously.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ellis of Abilene, formerly of Sweetwater; son, Forrest Kennedy and wife Kathy of Abilene; daughter, Teresa Stone and husband Robert of Sweetwater; three brothers, Jimmy Frank Ellis and wife Bobbie of Sweetwater, John Alvin Ellis and wife Sharon of Dublin, TX, and David Ellis and wife Carmilla of Sweetwater; two sisters, Linda Easa and husband Danny of Cleveland, Ohio, and Edwina Clowers of Sweetwater; two granddaughters, Miranda Canada & husband Travis of Clyde, and Tana Kurz and husband Alex of Hawaii; two grandsons, Brant Kennedy of Abilene, and Rance Stone of Stephenville; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Foust Ellis, in 1997; his father, J.B. Ellis, in 1999; his brother, Kenneth B. Ellis; and his sister, Roberta Harrell.
Pallbearers will be Cory Scott, Adam Merket, Scooter Scott, Mike Montoya, Little Hud Hudson, Cory Beavers and Brodie Harris.
Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Shackleford, Bill Preston, Vollie Shipp and Frank Martinez.
