Don Ludlum, 82, founder and owner of Ludlum Measurements, Inc., passed away early Friday morning in Plano, TX at the Heart Hospital-Baylor.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Kary Fry officiating. For any over flow crowd, one may go to a LIVE STREAMING at Fourth and Elm Church of Christ at the same hour (1 p.m.).
The family will receive friends for a formal visitation Tuesday evening, Feb. 24, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 East Third, Sweetwater, TX 79556.
Don's wishes were cremation and his ashes will be buried privately by his family at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Don was born May 18, 1932 in Tulsa, Okla. to Grace and George Ludlum. He was a graduate of Kansas State University receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Joyce Kilbourn on Jan. 25, 1953 in Greeley Colo. After living in Sweetwater since January of 1962, Joyce passed away Aug. 23, 1978. With a family of six children, Don met another love of his life and married Irene Terry Peeples on Oct. 19, 1979 in Sweetwater. Don has said many times to many people that Irene was the best thing that could have ever happened to him. "She became my loving wife and brought great love and stability to our home of four daughters and four sons."
Don was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a long time member of Sweetwater Rotary Club, a long time member of and served on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the City Commission. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Don was also selected as Sweetwater's Outstanding Citizen in 1986. Don was a community leader in so many other ways, it's almost impossible to name them all. His company LMI employs over 400 people in Sweetwater and more than one hundred in other locations. He led his company as CEO from 1962 to 2014 when he turned the reins over to his son Larry Ludlum.
Don is survived by his wife, Irene Ludlum of the home; four daughters, Cathy Ludlum Reed of Sweetwater, Wendy Wiele and husband Roland of Albuquerque, N.M., Jill Ludlum of Abilene and Jennifer Dendy and husband Mark of Pflugerville; three sons, Larry Ludlum of Sweetwater, Max Peeples and wife Beth Spicewood and Rick Peeples and wife Elsa of San Angelo; two sisters, Virginia Taylor of Estes Park, Colo. and Jean Marie Pfenning and husband Harold of Milwaukie, Ore.; a daughter-in-law, Pam Ludlum Reynolds and husband Donald of Sweetwater; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce on Aug. 23, 1978; a son, Robert A. (Rob) Ludlum on June 24, 2007; and his parents, George Merl Ludlum on Jan. 15, 2008 and Grace Wray Ludlum on Sept. 28, 2002.
The family request memorials be made to the or one's favorite charity.
