Eleanor Elaine (Hutchison) Hampton Obituary
Eleanor Elaine Hutchison Hampton died peacefully on Dec. 11, 2015 in Sweetwater, Texas after a brief illness. She was known as Bunny from before birth because she made the bridge table jump while still in utero. Bunny was born Jan. 27, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to Eleanor Jones Hutchison and John A. Hutchison, Jr. She was the granddaughter of O.K. and Eleanor Jones and John A. Hutchison, Sr. and Ruth Brown Hutchison. She was predeceased by her parents and, in 2005, by her son Hadley Wade Hampton. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert (Bob) Hampton, D.D.S.; her son, Tad Hampton, M.D. and his wife, Linda; two grandchildren, Lauren and Scott; and two brothers, Judge John A. Hutchison, III and David S. Hutchison, M.D.
Bunny was valedictorian of her Abilene High School class of 1958 and a junior year Phi Beta Kappa at SMU where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Following graduation from SMU in three years, Bunny continued her education at SMU Law School where she was first in her class. She married Bob Hampton on Aug., 12, 1961 when they moved to Phoenix where Bob served two years in the USAF Dental Corps. Before they left Dallas, both number two and number three ranked students in the SMU law school class called Bob to thank him for removing Bunny from their class so they might have a shot at being number one in the class and get that great job that number one always receives.
They moved to Sweetwater in 1963 where Bob practiced dentistry for 40 years. Bunny managed Bob's dental practice and the couple raised two sons. She enjoyed travel in Europe and ski trips to Crested Butte, Colorado where the whole family learned to ski. An avid reader with a great sense of humor, she was affectionately known as "Doctor Bunny" because of her self-taught vast knowledge of medicine and her sound advice to patients, friends, and family. She was also known as "Fairy God Mother" because of her generosity and her ability to pick just the right gift for just the right occasion. She was a sought after partner at the bridge table and a tutor to young underprivileged students in Sweetwater. She served many years on the Child Welfare Board in Sweetwater and was President of the AAUW Club in Sweetwater for many years. In addition, she was also a Cub Scout Leader. Bunny, a pet lover, was devoted to her dogs, Ace and Bhagwan.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kary Fry and Dr. Cliff Stewart officiating. Interment is under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bunny's memory be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Planned Parenthood, or to the .
