Florence Jones Norred Obituary
Florence Jones "Flozelle" Norred died on Dec. 25, in Dallas. She was 84 years old.
Born Jan. 24, 1931 in Greenville, she was the daughter of Ruth Davis Jones and James Wylie Jones and the granddaughter of Walter and Florence Davis of Sweetwater. She graduated from Sweetwater High School, the University of Texas and Hardin-Simmons University. In 1952, she received a scholarship from Rotary International and studied for a year at the University of Manchester in England. She married William R. Norred on Dec. 18, 1954, and they lived in Sweetwater until moving to a retirement community in Dallas in 2003.
Mrs. Norred is best remembered as a longtime English teacher at Sweetwater High School. In a career that spanned more than 20 years, she served as chair of the English Department and Faculty Advisor to the SHS Student Council. She was always pleased to hear from former students, and she was deeply touched when told that she had made an impact on so many lives. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the board of the County-City Library.
Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, she is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Jim Derr of Pottstown, PA, Nancy and Mark Elliott of Burleson and Kristi and Loren Sauer of Frisco; a sister, Patricia Schneider of Cedar Park; grandchildren, Christoper and Dina Bails of Spring, Courtney and Blake White of Mansfield, Caroline and Hannah Sauer of Frisco; and two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Witten Bails.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. in Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist Church. The family requests that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 309 Cedar St. in Sweetwater, 79556; the County-City Library, 206 Elm, Sweetwater, or to a .
