Frances Mae (Mingus) Sears Obituary
Frances Mae (Mingus) Sears, 103, passed away August 4, 2017 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater, Texas. A Graveside service will be held at 10:45 A.M. Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Strebeck officiating under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
She was born March 3, 1914 in Abilene, Texas to John A. and Ethel (Hovey) Mingus. Frances Mae was a graduate of Abilene High School and attended Hardin Simmons College and McMurry College for two years. Frances Mae (Mingus) Sears married Arthur Lance Sears, a third generation of a pioneer ranching family, June 26, 1933 and resided at the ranch near Maryneal, Texas. Frances Mae and Lance moved into Sweetwater in 1949 where she resided until her death. She was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church. She had served on the board of the Nolan County Museum, a member of the Cattle Women West of Pecos, a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Association, and an honorary board member of Texas State Technical College. Frances Mae was a homemaker and long time rancher. She spent much of her time at the Sears Ranch in Alpine, Texas and going out to the Sears Ranch near Maryneal, Texas.
She is survived by two daughters; Suzanne Sears Hagino of Boerne, Texas and Sandra (Nubbin) Sears Lowenfield and husband Ralph of El Paso, Texas. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Susan Swaim and husband Ken of Truth Or Consequences, NM, Lance Sears Easterling, Jr. and wife Jayne of Columbus, Texas, Frances Sears Blair and husband Dr. David Blair of Bloomer, Wisconsin, six great grandchildren; Cole Easterling, Callie Jo Swaim, K.C. Swaim, Eleanor Sears Blair, Abigail Laurel Blair, Frederick Russell Blair, and a special friend; Janis McDowell and husband Fred of Sweetwater, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Lance Sears and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Texas State Technical College Scholarship Fund at First Financial Bank , P.O. Box 668, Sweetwater, TX 79556 or to the County City Library, 206 Elm St., Sweetwater, TX 79556 or First United Methodist Church, 309 Cedar St., Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
The family wants to express a special thanks to her Care Givers; Cindy DeLeon, Rose Morales, Jennifer Vest, Rebecca Harris, Benny Posten, and to Dr. Jennifer Liedtke, Dr. O (Mojisola Onwuchuruba), Shayla Talamantec with Kindred Hospice, and the entire staff at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
