Francis Pfaefflin Harris Obituary
Francis was born Jan. 9, 1914, in Austin, to Annie Price Pfaefflin and Herman Pfaefflin where she graduated from Austin High School in 1932.
Francis also graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Texas in 1936, where she met Jack W. Harris of Sweetwater. She taught school in Smithville, Texas, until she married Jack in 1938.
Francis and Jack lived in Sweetwater until 1942 when they moved to Omaha, Neb. in preparation for WWII. After WWII, they lived in Valley Stream, New York, but returned to Sweetwater in 1951 where she remained until her death.
Francis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Sorosis Club, PEO, Alpa Phi Sorority and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. Francis, or Grandmere to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, had a great gift for remembering the important events and dates in people's lives and was the family historian. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Francis is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; and infant son, Stephen William Harris.
She is survived by a son, David Andrews Harris and his wife Gaye of Dallas; a daughter, Jeannette Harris Bryant and her husband Loren of Sweetwater; three grandsons and one granddaughter, Todd Robert Harris and his wife Laran of Houston, Caroline Bryant Livingston and her husband Will of Flower Mound, Drew Martin Harris of Dallas and Travis Andrew Bryant and his wife Elizabeth of Dallas. Francis is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Houston, Hank and Cash Harris of Houston; Bryant, Caleb, Naomi and Jack Livingston of Flower Mound; Story Beth and Autumn Joy Bryant of Dallas.
Visitation will be held at McCoy Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 6, from 5-7 p.m. and a memorial service celebrating the life of Francis Harris will be held at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Keenan and Ronnie Williams and grandsons Todd Robert Harris, Drew Martin Harris, Travis Andrew Bryant and Will Livingston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, National WASP WWII Museum or a .
