Gloria Gonzalez Obituary
Gloria Gonzalez, 62, of Sweetwater, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 in Big Spring.
Her body was cremated per her wishes. A private memorial service will take place at a later date. Myers & Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Big Spring is in charge of arrangements.
Gloria was born on July 17, 1954 in California. She moved to Sweetwater from California in 1981. She was a housewife for some years before applying and accepting a job at the Sweetwater Reporter in September of 1988 as a newspaper carrier. She retired in March of this year after 28 years. Gloria was not only a carrier for the Sweetwater Reporter, but also the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Dallas Morning News and Abilene Reporter-News over the years. Her most rewarding job was being a loving mother to her only child and her three grandchildren who she called "Divina, Bubba and Chicky Pea." They called her "Grandma Cola and Gramemah." She was "another mother" to many of her joking around. She was a character and was always making people laugh, turning almost any situation into a funny one. She loved playing bingo and visiting local game rooms. She was very special and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her daughter, Tatiana Torres of Sweetwater; three grandchildren, Lucy Castaneda, Adrian Castaneda and Rowan Rodriguez, all of Sweetwater; "son she never had" Jimmy Edward "Pelon" Medina of San Angelo; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, including her special baby brother, Carlos Gonzalez; an infant daughter, Maria Trinidad Martinez; "special son" Ricardo "Bito" Hernandez, Jr.; and love of her life, Thomas Castillo, Sr.
Special thanks to all first responders and her caregivers throughout the past few years of her mounting health issues and three of Gloria's special friends, Rosa Hernandez, Selma Castro and Vickie Guerra who have stepped in to take care of her daughter and grandchildren in their time of need.
