Dr. John Berry Bowen Obituary
Dr. John Berry Bowen was born March 6, 1929, in Lubbock, Texas, to Alice and Floyd Bowen.
He graduated from Lubbock High, Texas Tech University, and Southern Colleges of Optometry in Memphis, TN. John was an Officer in the United States Air Force. He was appointed to and served for two terms on the Texas State Optometric Board of Examiners. In 1982 was named Optometrist of the Year for the State of Texas. His offices were in Sweetwater and Lubbock. He was an avid supporter of Texas Tech University and Lubbock County Club. He served in the Lubbock Rotary Club and several civic and community boards. Dr.
Bowen is survived by his wife, Betty Stroman Bowen; daughter, Beverly Bowen of Lubbock; son, John Berry Bowen of Allen, Texas; brothers-in-law, J.C. (Butch) Stroman and wife, Cindy of Sweetwater and Ron Stroman and wife, Carolyn of Midland; and cousin, Lee Majors and wife, MaryAnne of Midland.
Dr. Bowen has five nieces and one nephew.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. John Brown, Dr. Wayne Culp, Johnny Fisher, Dr. Hal Green, Stumpy Greer, Owen Gilbreath, Joe Horkey, Greg Jones, Dr. Scott Porter, Dr. Randy Reber, Dr. Bryan Smitherman, and Bill Tarbox.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, at First United Methodist Lubbock. In lieu of flowers please donate to the .
