John Willis Griffith Obituary
Sweetwater - John Willis Griffith, age 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 at his Lake Sweetwater home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Trent, Texas with Richard Beaver officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Trent.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at McCoy Funeral Home.
John was born July 11, 1936 in Lee County, Texas to Monas E. and Katie Lee (Moses) Griffith. He attended school in Lee County.
He married Ida Lenora Carter May 31, 1955 in Stamford. They moved to Sweetwater in 1983 and he was employed by TSTC as a Heating and Air Conditioning Instructor for 23 years.
John was also a VICA leader at TSTC. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Trent.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Griffith of Sweetwater; daughters Brenda Browning and husband Jimmy (Bo) of Sweetwater and Saundra Rivers and husband Kevin of Roby; daughter-in-law, Sherry Griffith of Trent; brothers, Ervin Griffith and wife Jean of Lexington, Texas and James Alfred Griffith of Abilene; sisters. Linda Stagner and husband Kelvin of Abilene, Glenda Collier of Abilene, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Wayne Griffith; sisters, Betty Lois Underwood, Anna Talent and a brother Calvin Griffith.
Pallbearers will be Jon Browning, Michael Austermann, Nicholas Austermann, Jeremy Griffith, Jerry Griffith, Larry Clem, Stephen Campbell, Cal Collier and Chance Kelly.
Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Griffith, Jessica Browning and Misty Austermann.
