Dr. Karen D. (Hicks) Alldredge Obituary
Dr. Karen Hicks-Alldredge died Monday, March 9, 2015 at her home in Sweetwater.
There will be a family and friend visitation Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Dr. Karen was born in Farmington, N.M. on March 19, 1952. She grew up and attended schools on the Navaho Reservation at Window Rock, AZ where her dad was the Bureau of Indian Affairs Superintendent. She later graduated high school in Aberdeen, S.D. and was crowned Miss Aberdeen during her senior year. She attended Northern State college in Aberdeen graduating in 1974 with a degree in Environmental Science and Chemistry. She then worked for the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Department. Needing more challenges, she returned to academia and graduated in 1983 from Iowa State with her Doctorate on Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Karen practiced in Midland for four years then attended the University of Illinois and Texas A&M University graduate programs in Theriogenology. She returned to Midland and practiced until 1993 when she moved to Sweetwater and joined her husband at the Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Karen was a Rotarian and served that organization as its president for a term. She was a Paul Harris Fellow and a Presbyterian.
Dr. Karen Hicks-Alldredge is survived by her husband, Bud E. Alldredge Jr., DVM; mother and father, Delores Audis and Orville Hicks of Abilene; one sister, Sherry Hirsch and husband V.J. Hirsch, MD of Abilene; two brothers, Jim Hicks and wife Deb of Fort Pierre, S.D. and Gary Hicks and wife Deb of St. Johns, Ariz.; step son, Bud E. Alldredge III DVM and wife Kelly of Cleveland, Tx; step daughter Michelle LaMendola RN, NP and husband Tom of Chandler, Ariz.; step grandchildren, Isabella LaMendola, Nicholas LaMendola of Chandler, Ariz., Chase Alldredge of of Cleveland, Tx, Melissa Primeaux and husband Jonathan of Cleveland, Tx, Dillion Martin and wife Crystal of Cleveland, Tx and Courtney Porter of Cleveland, Tx; five step great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews, John Hirsch and wife Candice of Abilene, Samantha Goodman, MD and husband Kevin of Abilene, Tara Knapp and husband Craig of Belle Fourche, SD, Alicia Malstrom and husband Stephen of Chicago, Ill., James and Tara Hicks of Fort Pierre, S.D., Tanya Tubbs of Fort Pierre, S.D. and Eli Hicks of St. Johns, Ariz.
