Karen Marie Smith Whitaker, 62, of Sweetwater,TX (formerly of Colorado City ,TX). Karen entered heavens gates on December 31,2016,after passing suddenly and quietly in her home. Karen was born October 7, 1954 in Colorado City to parents of the late Loyd Smith and Helen Joyce Cain. Karen was a 1972 graduate of Colorado City High School.

Throughout her life she held different positions professionly, but found her lifes calling was her role in her oldest sons lengthy battle against leukemia. During that journey she found Strength,respect, purpose and many friends. She found her spiritual family at Bethel Assembly and attended as much as possible. Her hobbies included shopping, cooking, dancing and adventure. She enjoyed long conversations with her sisters while attending loved ones special events and family gatherings. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her bright smile,strong will and larger than life Spirit,made her widely known,loved and unforgettable.
She leaves her memories to be cherished by her loving children: Daughter: Danielle Benson Alcala of Abilene and Son: Lindley Benson of Sweetwater. Beloved Grandchildren: Megan and Timothy Holsey, Allison and Addison Torres, Shelby,Dustin, Bill Benson all of Sweetwater . Blessed Great-Grandchildren: Jaxon Williams of Sweetwater. Adoring Sisters: Annette Privitt and husband Pete of Euless,TX, Beth Cade and husband Trey of China Springs,TX. Devoted Brothers: Skeet Smith and wife Pamela of Sweetwater, Allen Smith of Sweetwater.And many Nieces ,nephews, cousins honorary children and friends.

A Memorial Service and celebration of Karen's Life, will be held Wednesday, January 4th, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethel Assembly in Sweetwater with Rev. Carter Edmundson officiating. Graveside Service and interment will be held at Colorado City Cemetery immediately following Memorial Service. Pallbearers will be Pete Privitt,Jaiden Smith, Mark Smith, Eddie Torres, Kyle Cade, Keith Ruddick,Tyler Smith.
