Kevin Edward Jones passed away on July 5, 2017 at the age of 56. Kevin was surrounded by friends and family during his final days. Kevin was a longtime resident of Athens, Texas where he lived in the Oakwood community near Lake Athens. A Memorial Service will be held 6:00 P.M. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Lake Athens Baptist Church 5151 FM 2495 Athens, TX 75752. A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Roscoe Cemetery, Roscoe TX with Rev. David Draper officiating directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Kevin was born in Irving, Texas on October 9, 1960. He grew up in Garland, TX and lived for a number of years is Phoenix, Arizona. Kevin had an agile mind, quick wit, and off-color sense of humor to say the least. Kevin made others feel comfortable whether you were with him in-person, talking on the phone, or even online. Kevin was a devoted son. He loved his "mama" very much. Kevin spent the last 8 years of his life in Athens, Texas caring for his ailing mother, coordinating her care, and ensuring her comfort. Kevin is survived by his brother, Jim Spence and his sister Krissa Jones-Winningham. He is also survived by his loving partner Melanie Cain. Melanie cared for Kevin during the last months of his life. The family is so very thankful for Melanie's love, compassion, and care. The family is truly thankful too for David and Stacey Strickland, Kevin's first cousins, whose love and support provided comfort to us all. Kevin is also survived by his Uncle Johnny and Aunt Karen Jones from his father's side of the family with whom he had a particularly close relationship. He is also survived by his Uncle Omar Matthew "Butch" Strickland on his mother's side for whom he had the deepest respect and love. Lastly, he is survived by step-uncles, step-aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He touched many lives with his infectious sense of humor, outgoing personality, and love.
