Leo Dade Nunn Jr. Obituary
Leo Dade Nunn, Jr., at the age of 90, joined his Heavenly Father on April 26, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater with interment following in the Garden of Memories with Masonic Graveside Rites. Rev. Brian Brownlow will officiate and services will be under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 30, from 6-8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Sue Pee Nunn; his daughter, Lynda Sue Dooley and husband Harold of Houston; a grandson, Derek Dade Dooley and wife Deneige; and six great-grandchildren, Warren, Dade, Adelaide, Henry, Hayes and Anne Louise of Houston; a granddaughter, Lori Sue Cabrera and husband Antonio; and great-grandson Caden of Houston; a brother, Carl Nunn and wife Yvonne of Hermleigh; and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nunn was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lillian Revel Nunn and Leo Dade Nunn, Sr.; and sister, Bettye Carter of Dallas.
Pallbearers will be members of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge # 571.
Mr. Nunn was born in Sweetwater on June 14, 1924. He graduated from Sweetwater Newman High School in 1943. After graduation he went into the Army but received a medical discharge. On Sept. 20, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart Eula Sue Pee. They had one daughter, Lynda Sue, a 1965 graduate of Sweetwater High School and a 1968 graduate of Baylor University. In 1944 he joined his father in the tire business, and after Leo Nunn, Sr. retired, he continued as the manager of the Shook Tire Company in Sweetwater until his retirement in March 1975. He was also a share holder in the Shook Tire Company organization. Mr. Nunn petitioned the Sweetwater Council of the Masonic Lodge in 1945 and was a Master Mason for over 70 years. He received his pins and was honored as a Royal Arch Mason in May 1996 for 50 years, in June 2005 for 60 years and in June 2010 for 65 years. Mr. Nunn was a member of the First United Methodist Church which he supported and served faithfully in many capacities. He was a Sunday school teacher for youth and adult classes, a member of the Evangelism Committee, Chairman of the Official Board, and a Lay Speaker. As a business man, Mr. Nunn was a member of the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. He served on the City Planning and Zoning Commission for several years and also served as Chairman of the Nolan County TB Association. He was very active in the Kiwanis Club and played an active role in developing the children's park in the 1950s. In May 2013, Leo and Sue moved to Houston to be closer to their family. It was a blessing to visit with the great-grandchildren. Initially they lived in a Brookdale Independent Living Community but moved this past year into a Brookdale Assisted Living Facility.
