Maria (Velez) Gaytan Obituary
Maria Velez Gaytan of Sweetwater, Texas went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish Catholic Church with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Maria was born May 19, 1958 in Rotan, Texas to Esteban Ruiz and Maria Garcia Velez. She was preceded in death by her husband Juan Gaytan, her parents, brothers Ricardo Velez, Esteban R. Velez, Jr., and sister Virginia Velez Carr.
Maria is survived by her children Adriana Archuleta and husband Jacob, Sergio Gaytan and wife Allison, two granddaughters Candence and Braelyn Gaytan. She is also survived by a brother Jose Velez and wife Rafaela of Arlington, Texas, six sisters Zulema Gattis and husband Jerry of Douglas, Georgia, Zita Carrasco and husband Manuel of Odessa, Texas, America Yanez and husband Manuel of Rotan, Texas, Argentina Yanez and husband Luther of Rotan, Texas, China Silva and husband David of Kansas City, Kansas and Carrolina Tweedy and husband John of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Many cousins , nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews will also miss her greatly.
After graduating from Rotan High School, Maria moved to Odessa where she worked and met her future husband. After marrying, they moved to Sweetwater.
Maria was a valued member of Holy Spirit Parish Catholic Church, was a cherished employee of Sweetwater Independent School District and K-Mart. After becoming a widow, Maria continued to work and raise her two children. Her strength, intelligence, kindness, generosity and dignity during her difficult times, were witnessed by her family, friends and co-workers as she raised her family. Many school children will remember her kindness and caring. Pallbearers will be Felix Yanez, Jordan Medrano, Frank Medrano, Kerry Carr, Jerome Carr and Derek Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Velez and Chris Velez.
