Max Vernon Caswell Obituary
Services for Max Vernon Caswell, 89, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Allen Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015.
He died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born on Mary 5, 1926 in Valley View, Texas, near Colorado City. He married Alta Lavon Williams on June 7, 1952 in Sweetwater.
He was a long time member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church. He worked and retired from Texas & Pacific Railroad. He held positions as a Telegraph Operator and Agent Clerk for T&P many years. He was a long time member of the Loraine Masonic Lodge #1307 serving in several stations. He graduated from Colorado City High School and attended John Tarleton College.
Survivors include three nieces, Betty Wilcoxen and husband Gayland of Eastland, Elaine Laughner and husband Steve of Katy and Geri Windham and husband Jack of Nacogdoches, Texas; two nephews, Jerry Hoover and wife Nancy of Midland and Geoffrey Hopkins and wife Cindy of Bullverde, Texas; a sister-in-law, Gladia Hopkins and husband Gene of Anderson; two great-nieces, Kendall Windham of Lufkin and Jennifer Hopkins of College Station; and one great-nephew, Mark Hopkins of Bullverde.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Lavon Caswell, on June 29, 2004; two sisters, Lucile Burleson and Hazel Hoover; a brother, Cecil Caswell and his parents, Noah and Nora (Johnson) Caswell.
Pallbearers will be Doug Taylor, Gary Stuart, Dick Spears, Jack Windham, Geoffrey Hopkins and Rusty Allen.
