Maynard Roy Willis Obituary
Maynard Roy Willis, age 89, of Sweetwater passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in Abilene. Texas. Military graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Mike Sells officiating.
Military Honors will be performed by the Fort Hood Military Honors Team. McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements. Maynard was born May 15, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. He married Madell Benningfield July 28, 1954 in Clairmont, Texas. Maynard was a cowboy in his early years working on ranches breaking horses, was a self employed certified welder, was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict, was a lifetime member of the Sweetwater Jaycees and he built the large SWEETWATER sign that stands atop of the Doscher Building.
He is survived by his wife Madell Willis of Sweetwater, his best friend and companion; "Bo", daughters; Toby Hirt and Rex of Roscoe, Melanie Burnett and Brent of Sweetwater, granddaughters; Timorie Wilke and Shawn of Sweetwater, Latimer Burnett of Sweetwater, great grandsons Taygan and Taytan Wilke of Sweetwater. Maynard is also survived by his brother Robert Willis and wife Doris of Bryan, Texas, brother-in-law Don Benningfield and wife Doty of Clairmont, Texas, several nieces and nephews including Sis, Curly, Roy and Ray; Forest, Jesse, Dalton, Donald, Chris and Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Rose Marie Willis, brothers Elmer Willis and wife Nona and Donald Willis and wife Margaret.
