Nancy Grace (Wright) Clark Obituary
Nancy Grace Wright Clark passed away at home on Friday, March 6, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer; she was 66.
Nancy was born on July 23, 1948 in Texas City, Texas to Pete and Evelyn Wright. Upon graduating from Texas City High School in 1966, she attended the University of Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970. It was there she met the love of her life and future husband, William Steele (Bill) Clark. They were married in Austin on Sept. 17, 1971. Nancy and Bill made their home in Sweetwater in 1972 and were blessed with two daughters, Eve Elizabeth Clark and Sarah Frances Clark.
In 1979 Nancy embarked on what would become a 26 year teaching career at Sweetwater Middle School and High School. She was awarded a fellowship by the National Endowment for the Humanities Institute at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in 1995, was named Sweetwater High School Teacher of the year in 2000, and was presented the George Stiles Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Education in 2004. Nancy loved to travel and had the pleasure of sponsoring five European tours for senior students giving them the opportunity to experience many countries and cultures.
After retiring from Sweetwater Independent School District, Nancy worked for the law firm Wetsel & Carmichael, and later worked part time for the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. A member of the BH Chapter of PEO since 1978, she held several offices including President and was a delegate to both State and International conventions.
Nancy was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She cherished family and friends, the Texas Longhorns, reading, travel, playing bridge, long walks and the hundreds of young people that she had the privilege to teach.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Grace Evelyn Wright; sister Cynthia Ann Wright Harris; and beloved father and mother in law, Davis and Frances Clark.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Bill; daughters, Eve Clark Patterson and husband Chris Patterson of Houston and Sarah Clark of Dallas; sister-in-law, Ann Clark Gay and husband John Gay of Topeka, Kan.; their children and grandchildren. Nancy is also survived by her lovable furry companions, Conrad and Bobby who brought her great joy.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, March 11 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 East 3rd Street in Sweetwater. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1311 McCaulley Street in Sweetwater, following a private burial service.
