Olline Shilling Obituary
Olline Elizabeth (Mrs. Jack) Shilling, 97, of Winnfield, La., formerly of Sweetwater, went to be with her Lord Friday, Feb. 13, 2015.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with the Reverend Malcolm Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening, Feb. 19, 2015 at McCoy Funeral Home, located at 401 East Third Street in Sweetwater.
Olline was born to Ollie L. and Clara Josephine (Grizzle) Morrow on Feb. 3, 1918, in Snyder. She married James Lloyd ""Jack"" Shilling on May 31, 1936 in Lubbock.
Olline's professional working career started June 7, 1953 at the Texas Bank and Trust Company located at the corner of Oak and Third Street. She was honored with a retirement party Dec. 31, 1982 after 28 years of dedicated service. Her career started in bookkeeping and moved to various other departments of the bank until moving to it's present location on East Broadway where she was named drive-in teller. When the new drive-in motor bank was opened in May of 1979, she was promoted to supervising officer of the new addition and worked in that capacity until her retirement. She was a member of the American Institute of Banking, the West Central Texas Bank Women and National Association of Bank Women. She was a past member of J.P. Cowen Parent Teacher Association and former member of Sweetwater Band Booster Club and the Mustang Booster Club. She was very active in United Way and past president of the Sweetwater Business and Professional Women's Club having served two different terms in that office (1970-1971) (1974-1975). She was honored by the club in 1974 as ""Woman of the Year."" She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sweetwater and was very active in singing and leading the Adult Sunday School Department.
After her retirement, Olline did enjoy a few good years in her favorite place of Ruidoso, N.M. She was a member of three different AARP organizations since her retirement and served as the treasurer of one in Truth or Consequences, N.M. and one in Sweetwater. She also was a member of the SNAP program in Sweetwater and served as treasurer of that organization.
When she moved to Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield, La. eight years ago, she was active on the nursing home council. She was elected as Queen of the Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in 2010 and also as the District Queen for her district in Louisiana in 2010. She was always active in the churches she attended, especially the singing that coincided with the lessons they were studying. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for five years in Truth or Consequences.
She is survived by her son, Jack Cloyd Shilling and wife Sydney of Norman, Okla.; a sister, Bobby Hale of Granbury; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren with one more on-the-way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a younger brother; three sisters; her husband, James ""Jack"" Lloyd Shilling in 1982; her son, James ""Jimmie"" Lloyd Shilling, Jr. in 2013; her daughter, Clara Jo Hicks in 1995; and a grandson.
Pallbearers will be Jim Shilling, Russell Allen, David Keim, Aaron Powell, Matthew Allen, Brandon Minyard, Riley Minyard and Robert Pieper.
