Paul Doyn Hartman Obituary
Services for Paul Doyn Hartman, 88, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Christian Hartman officiating. Interment will follow at Palava Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the Nolan County Honor Guard, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at McCoy Funeral Home.
Hartman died on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in San Angelo.
He was born on January 20, 1928 in Palava, Texas. He married Bernice Joy Hill on Mother's Day, May 14, 1950.
He was a life-long resident of Sweetwater and graduated from Newman High School. He worked for City Service Oil Company for five years after World War II of which he served in the U.S. Army. He then went to work for the Sweetwater Fire Department and retired as Fire Marshall after 31 years of service. He has been a member of the Palava Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church. He was a life time member of Sweetwater Jaycees and was a member of the American Legion Post #227 in Roscoe. He was past Quarter Master and Post Commander of the V.F.W. Post #2479 and was very active with the Nolan County Honor Guard. He also was a member of and served as Exalted Ruler of Sweetwater Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Hartman of Sweetwater; two sons, Terry Hartman and wife Sheree of Sweetwater, and Doyn Hartman of Sweetwater; one daughter, Annis Baxter and husband Shane of Roscoe; brother, Charles "Jimmy" Hartman and wife Ellen of Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren, Christian Hartman, Craig Smith, Amanda Finley, Timorie Wilke, Lance Baxter, Kelcee Drake, Jace Baxter; 14 great-grandchildren; and Becky Sells--whom Paul thought of as a third daughter, and husband Dean of Sweetwater.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Smith, on February 19, 1997; and his parents, Ivy Floyd "Shorty" and Seanath (Redden) Hartman.
Pallbearers will be all members of the Sweetwater Fire Department.
