Percy Joe Scott, 84, died after a long battle with Alzheimer's on December 24, 2020, at New Haven Living and Memory Care in San Angelo, Texas. He was born July 17, 1936, in Abilene, Texas, the son of W.P. and Thelma Pha Scott. Joe graduated from Trent High School, class of 1955. After graduation, he married Zana Beth Young. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2006, two years later Zana would lose her battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Joe worked at Texas Electric for five years before deciding to join the Department of Public Safety in 1959. He served the DPS and was stationed in El Paso, Sweetwater, San Angelo, Dallas, and Midland. He started out traveling to small communities and issued drivers license, he was promoted to the Intelligence Division where he did investigative work, be on stake outs and protect high ranking state officials. After 36 years, Joe retired as Captain in 1995 and he and Zana moved to Merkel and purchased a 100 year old house and renovated the old farm house and enjoyed their retirement and rekindling childhood friendships, they loved being back "home". Joe had several hobbies which included Rattlesnake hunting, high school sports officiating, fishing and golf. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, G. W. (Bill), brothers-in-law, John Young, David Young and Tom Young. He is survived by four children, Stephen Joe Scott (LaNell), Sheila Beth Uherik (Jay), Sonja Gail Young (Mike) and John Todd Scott (Susan), grandchildren, Jana Thomason (Craig), Sonora Lusk (Haden), Luke Uherik (Lesli), Josh Uherik ( Sara), Meagan Schlinkert (David), John Scott (Kendra), Sarah Gonzales (Chris), and Emily Scott. Joe was blessed with 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Ann Scott, brother-in-law Billy Glenn Young (Mary) and numerous nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Trent. Internment will be at Trent Garden of Memories Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 12 to 2 PM on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Gifts in P. Joe Scott's memory should go to First Baptist Church of Trent, Alzheimer's Association, Texas DPS Officers Association or a charity of your choice.
