Richard Lee Ferrell Obituary
Richard Lee Ferrell 79, died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.
He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on May 30, 1937. His family moved to Sweetwater when he was an infant and he always considered himself a native of Sweetwater, Texas.
Richard Ferrell was a well known champion welter weight Golden Gloves Boxer in the mid 1950s and had many treasured trophies.
He graduated from Sweetwater Newman High School in 1956 were he was considered a good running back for the football team. Richard was a excellent self taught diver and attended one semester at The University of Texas in Austin where he was a member of the diving team.
After That he then decided to join the United States Air Force. After serving his country for 4 years he became a Master Plumber and until his retirement he had his own business, Richard "Cotton" Ferrell Plumbing.
He also enjoyed playing golf at the Lake Sweetwater Golf Course. Richards wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered at the Lake Sweetwater Golf Course all arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Richards name will not be carved on a tombstone, however his name will be forever etched on hearts of many friends who knew and loved him.
Rest in Peace Richard Ferrell and know that you left a legacy inscribed into the minds of others with the stories you shared about your life. Richard was survived by his Nephew Lee Ferrell of Sugarland, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Furman Claude Ferrell February 13, 1989 and Annie Mae (Morrow) Ferrell on June 3, 1997 and a sister Shirley Ann Meiners and a brother Clinton Ferrell.
