Reverend Robert Bentley Sweet Obituary
Reverend Robert Bentley Sweet, 83, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at his residence. Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Tommy J. Jackson conducting and Bishop George T. Garnett officiating. There will be a Wake Friday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M.. Burial will follow in the Sweetwater Cemetery directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Robert was born August 27, 1934 to Jesse James and Novelette Dezoia (Kone) Sweet in Beaumont, Texas. He lived in Sweetwater off and on since 1966 and permanently since 1995. He was a Pastor for 34 years covering churches in Rochester, TX, Rule, TX, Roby, TX and Snyder, TX. He was the former First Vice Moderator of the Lovely Sunset Baptist District Association. He was a member of the Mount Rose Baptist Church in Sweetwater. Robert also worked for Renzenberger Transport Service 10 years. Robert married Linda Wright April 11, 1980 in Sweetwater. He is survived by his wife Linda Sweet of Sweetwater, five sons: Wendell Sweet & wife Tersa of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Sweet, Jr. & wife Diane of San Antonio, TX, Craig (Tony) Sweet & wife Marcie of Duncanville, TX, Antonio (Tony) Atkins of Lubbock, TX, Bobby Atkins, Jr. & wife Noel of North Richland Hills, TX, four daughters; Terry Sweet of Dallas, TX, Joyce White & husband Doug of Dallas, TX, Marsha Sweet of Dallas, TX, Wanda Atkins of Sweetwater, TX, his mother in law; Birdie Wright of Sweetwater, TX, thirty grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren, a niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter LaTanya Gaines, a son Michael Sweet, a brother Norton Sweet, his father Jesse Sweet, a stepmother Melissa Sweet, his mother Novelette Cook, a stepfather Clyde Cook and wives Mildred Sweet and Christine Sweet. Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
