Robert Lee Stevens, 88, of Sweetwater, TX passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Services will be 2 P.M. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Lamar Street Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Norton and Jack Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories directed by McCoy Funeral Home. There will be a family visitation Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. at McCoy Funeral Home.
He was born in Cement, Oklahoma May 9, 1929 to Charlie Lee and Ruby (Tye) Stevens. Robert moved to Sweetwater at the age of 18 in 1947. He married Wanda Joyce Hamilton March 13, 1948 in Sweetwater, TX. He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church. While working for U.S. Gypsum Co. over 20 years and six years for The Flintkote Company, Robert also was a self-employed welder. After leaving Flintkote, his welding career became full time. He kept all the farmer's machinery running and maintained. He also welded for various oil companies including T&R. He is survived by his wife: Wanda Stevens of Sweetwater, three daughters: Gayla Bredemeyer and husband Robert of Sweetwater, TX, Charla Nerren & husband Ernie of Huntington, TX, Regena Graham and husband Ricky of Sweetwater, TX, a brother-in-law: Gene Moore of Roscoe, MO, 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 26 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and One Loved Dog: "RED". He was preceded in death by two sons; Danny L. Stevens in 1992, and Robbie Stevens in 1957, a grandson; Chris Bell in 1974, his parents, two sisters; Odessa Wilson and Nita Dean Moore, and a brother Junior Stevens. Pallbearers will be Steven Bredemeyer, Tim Bell, Scott Stevens, Kyle Graham, Hunter Stevens, Braiden Bell. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Good Sam R.V. Group.
