Sammie Joyce Williams Obituary
Sammie Joyce Williams, age 82, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 in Sweetwater, surrounded by her friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at 2 p.m. in Cate-Spencer-Trent Funeral Chapel with Cody Paty officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving friends after the service at the home of Patricia and Chuck Browning, 501 East 3rd, Sweetwater, Texas.
Sammie was born on March 19, 1932 in Hillsboro, Texas to Garland Clifford "Pete" and Annie Ruth (Craig) Emmons. On March 8, 1949, she married J.H. "Willie" Williams. Sammie and Willie had a collaborative and caring relationship. Their marriage was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other. Together they had four sons and three daughters. Sammie was a homemaker, a resident of Waco for 16 years before moving to Sweetwater in 1970. Sammie began her career outside the home in 1974 as a franchise owner of the Montgomery Wards store in Sweetwater for eight years before she took a position at TSTC as a cashier and then a position in the purchasing department, retiring after 16 years of service.
After retirement, Sammie and Willie spent nine years traveling in their RV to many state parks in Texas serving as park host, Sammie's family was the pride and joy of Sammie's life. The legacy of Sammie's kind spirit, her passion for sewing, her love of quilting and in her painting will live on through them.
Sammie is survived by her husband, Willie; sons, Roger, James and Clifford, all of Sweetwater and Kenneth Williams and wife Susan of Austin; daughters, Linda Todd and husband Larry of Quitman, Patricia Browning and husband Chuck of Sweetwater and Melonie Wilkinson and husband Randy of Hylton; sisters, Betty Williams, Dorothy McClure and Vickie Allen; brothers, Benny Emmons and Jimmy Emmons; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Marvin, Garland and Johnny Emmons; and daughter-in-law, Dindy Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sammie's name to Hendrick Hospice or Masonic Lodge #57l.
The Williams family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at the Nolan Nursing and Rehab and to Hendrick Hospice for their attentiveness and loving care.
