Vonita Ruth (Greene) Richardson Obituary
Vonita Ruth Greene Richardson, 77, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at Hendrick Hospice Center in Abilene, TX. Services will be 10 A.M. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Deborah Proctor officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. A family visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday evening at McCoy Funeral Home.
Vonita was born August 12, 1940 in Merkel, Texas and moved to Sweetwater as a child. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1958 where she played in the Mustang Band. Vonita and her group of close girlfriends called themselves the "Earth Angels". She then attended Hendrick's School of Nursing and in 1961 received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She married Dr. Gilbert Greene on August 12, 1961. She later married John Richardson on October 22, 1988. In 1977 she earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. Vonita worked as a nurse in various hospitals in Texas until 1988. In 1988 she moved back to Sweetwater for a short time and in 2000 permanently until her death. She was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church. She was a Special Lady to all that knew her. Survivors include a daughter Julie McGirk and husband Bill of Prescott, AZ, a son; Jeffrey Greene of Sweetwater, TX, a sister; Pat Tinklenberg and husband Mel of Somerville, TX, a brother; Joe Jeffrey and wife Siri of Sugar Land, TX, two granddaughters; Shannon McGirk and Sarah McGirk both of Prescott, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter Herman Jeffrey and Julia Agnes (Perkins) Jeffrey.
