W.B. Whisenant, Jr.
W.B. Whisenant, Jr., of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away May 13, 2018 at the age of 81. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at McCoy Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. A service celebrating his life will be held at 4th & Elm Church of Christ on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. with a graveside service to follow at Garden of Memories in Sweetwater, Texas under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. W.B. was born January 8, 1937 to William, Sr. and Opal (Young) Whisenant in Roscoe, Texas. He was raised in Sweetwater attending Newman High School, graduating in 1955. Shortly after graduation, W.B. married Thelma Kearney August 27, 1955. He attended Texas Tech 1955 to 1956 before starting employment at Anderson Young Electric in Lubbock. After a few years, W.B. moved his family back home to Sweetwater beginning his career at Sweetwater Electric & Supply in 1958 where he worked until 2008. W.B. was a loving, devoted husband and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, a passionate love of family and friends and, most importantly, an unwavering faith in his Lord. As a member at 4th & Elm Church of Christ, W.B. served his church family as a Sunday School teacher for 5th and 6th graders, Deacon, then Elder for many years. W.B. is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma; sister, Mary Gunn of Lipscomb and brother, Don Whisenant and wife, Theresa of Mesquite. Children, Billy Whisenant III and wife September of Sweetwater; Steve Whisenant and wife, Cindy of Amarillo; Kathy Rainey and husband, Ronnie, of Sweetwater; Susan Maxwell and husband, Craig of New Caney. Seven Grandchildren, William and Nathan Whisenant of Abilene; Kelsey Maxwell and wife, Allison of Abernathy; Sarah Maxwell of Lubbock; Kent Maxwell and wife Hope of Cleburne; Mariann and Jacob Rainey of Sweetwater. Three Great-Grandchildren, Bowen and Layton Maxwell of Abernathy; Kason Maxwell of Cleburne. W.B. is preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Opal (Young) Whisenant; Sarah Sweetwater, sister; and son, James Whisenant.
