Jerry Allen Trowbridge, 75, of Booneville passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, in Booneville. He was born Oct. 10, 1943, in Booneville to the late Cecil and Janelle (Blythe) Trowbridge. He graduated from Booneville High in 1961 and served as the class president and co-captain of his football team. He was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football, basketball, track and baseball. Following high school, Jerry attended College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and minor in business in 1966. Continuing his love for running, in 1980 he competed and finished in the Arkansas Marathon.
For over 30 years, he coached and taught history, government and political science at Marvel, Elkins and Hackett Schools, finally retiring from Hackett School District. At Marvel, he was an outspoken supporter for integration. He coached junior high football and girls basketball, both of which were integrated. Amid all the racial tensions in eastern Arkansas, he continuously showed compassion and care to all his students.
During retirement, he instructed study hall and in-school suspension at Booneville High School. During the summers, he could be found visiting junk stores and yard sales, in search of the next book to read or next treasure to find. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a loving father, ardent book lover, writer, card player, avid goffer, runner, tennis player, sports fan and Razorback sports enthusiast and he enjoyed watching the horse races at Oaklawn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, before mentioned.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Jennifer; a sister, Sandra Richardson (Bill) of Booneville; a brother, Danny Trowbridge (Pam) of Booneville; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home. Burial of the ashes will be at Oak Hill Cemetery by his parents.
