J. Patricia Mc Carthy May 13, 2021 J. Patricia Mc Carthy, 94, Birchwood Drive, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, Thursday evening, May 13, 2021, with her loving family by her side. Born in Syracuse on September 11, 1926, she was the daughter of Edward M. and Rosalie Bernall Donegan, the eighth of nine children. Pat was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School, Class of 1944. She married Patrick E. Mc Carthy in St. Anthony of Padua Church on April 3, 1948. They moved to Oneida, with their family, in 1966. Patricia was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's and St. Joseph's Churches and volunteered many years while residing in Syracuse and Oneida. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Our Lady 1250, St. Patrick's Altar-Rosary Society, the Oneida Healthcare Auxiliary, past president of the Women of Rotary and was a recipient of the Oneida Rotary Club's "Roses to the Living." Pat was known for her dominance of competition in speed skating, where she competed throughout the Northeast and was inducted in the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame for speed skating as well as the Urban Sports Hall of Fame. She was a member of the New York State Speed Skating Association. She also competed, for many years, with the Empire State Senior Games in swimming, tennis and badminton. Surviving besides her husband, Patrick, of 73 years, are her three daughters and their husbands, Mary Lynn and Dr. Preston Denby of Oneida, Caren and Michael Mazzullo, of Verona and Shannon and Thomas Dixon of Sherrill; her eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Richard) Fox, Brett (Karen) Denby, Heather (Derek) Kane, Michael (Chris Campbell) Mazzullo, Jessica Mazzullo, Patrick Dixon, Amy Dixon and Mark Dixon, sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two infant sons, Patrick and Joseph Mc Carthy, her five sisters, Hyacinth, Beatrice, Rosemary, June and Alyce and her three brothers, Edward, John and James. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday from St. Joseph's Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church 9: 30- 11 AM, Tuesday, prior to the service. Contributions, in her memory, may be made to St. Joseph's Food Pantry.
