Dorothy Ballard
Dorothy "Monda" Ballard, 88, received a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet our Maker on January 13, 2013. On June 15, 1924, Charles Pruitt and Samella Bell welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Dorothy Evelyn to their lives and to the city of Little Rock, Arkansas. Dorothy spent the majority of her life in Little Rock, AR. At age 11, she accepted Christ as her personal savior and became an active member at Shiloh Baptist Church. On June 5, 1939, she married the love of her life, Erbert Winston Ballard, Sr. This union created two loving, kind and wonderful children, Erbert Winston Ballard, Jr. and Dr. Doris Ballard-Ferguson.
Her knowledge of Little Rock History made Dorothy Ballard a historian among college students and her community. She was a breast cancer survivor and an advocate for breast health care. She valued knowledge - 'know your history and your health, because what you don't know can harm you'.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and son. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dr. Doris Ballard-Ferguson of Tallahassee, FL; sisters, Fannie Bell and Rosemary (Thomas); brothers, Benny (Ruth) and Arthur (Helen); grandchildren, Gail (Donnie) German of Charleston, South Carolina, Joseph "Jay" (Traci) Ferguson, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Cheryl (R. Kenyatte) Booker of Washington, DC, Eric Ferguson of Durham, NC, Gail German of Charleston, SC and Denise (Michael) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She leaves behind numerous family and friends.
A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and the Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at New Light Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR. Her remains were interred at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Little Rock, AR.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks you to send donations to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church/Preparing for the Future Building Fund Bethel Missionary Baptist Church; 224 North Martin Luther King Blvd.; Tallahassee, FL 32301.

Dr. Ballard-Ferguson,
I am saddened to hear of your mother's passing. She was truly a beautiful lady and most certainly a wonderful example of the "virtuous woman." She always shared such useful tidbits of wisdom. May God Bless, Comfort and Strengthen you and your family.
