S. Adele Mortimer

S. Adele Mortimer of Tallahassee, FL passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, February 6, 2014.

Adele was born June 6, 1925 in Atlanta and lived there until graduating from Girls' High School. She married George Mortimer in 1945 and spent 64 years with him, raising her beloved sons and daughters in Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and finally, Tallahassee.

Adele loved spending time with each member of her family and the beach was her favorite place to visit. She was grounded in her faith and her passion was helping those in need spending many years volunteering with the staff of St. John Neumann Center. Before then, she had a variety of adventures, including jobs as a model, realtor, legal secretary and proofreader for the Florida Legislature.

She is survived by her son, George (Lee) Mortimer III, daughters, Margaret Katherine (Kay) Scheiderer (Denny) of Panama City, FL. and Nancy Mortimer Treadway (Doug) as well as six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Adele is preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Mortimer, Jr., her son, Michael D. Mortimer, parents, William W. and Margaret B. Henning, three brothers, two sisters and grandsons, C. Clifton Scheiderer and Tanner D. Treadway.

A celebration of Adele's life will be held Thursday, February 13th, 11:00 am at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 N. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL 32303. Memorial Contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
