Irene Ishac Obituary

Irene Ishac, age 93, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2016. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Rhea and Henry Dumouchel. She was the middle child of five children.

She married Gourdji Ishac in 1945, and they resided for fifty years in Tenafly, New Jersey, where they raised three children. She was an extraordinary homemaker, wife, and mother. She loved children, baking, fixing and inventing things, needlework, sewing, painting, carving, ceramics, crafts, but especially helping others.

She moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1994, after her husband's death, and was an active and well-liked neighbor in the Woodgate community. She volunteered at Tallahassee Community Hospital and was known as the "newspaper and coffee lady." She lived at Westminster Oaks for the last eleven years. She was an enthusiastic participant in many activities there, and she especially enjoyed knitting group and helping with bingo.

She is survived by: daughter, Carol Armor, and son-in-law, Paul Armor, daughter, Barbara Lee, son, Allan Ishac, and five grandchildren, Amanda Rogers, Sarah Peterson, Zachary Hale, Maxwell Lee, and Alexander Lee, and five great-grandchildren, Skyla, Penny, Sage, Leif and Xander. She is also survived by her lifelong, dearest friend, Caroline Sion, dear friend, Cindy Teem, and devoted companions, Mattie Nealy and Tori Nealy.

Her funeral will be held in Tenafly, New Jersey (Barrett Funeral Home), with a memorial service to be held at Westminster Oaks (to be announced at a later date). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
