Dr. Alex M. Rudewicz Obituary
Dr. Alex M. Rudewicz

Tallahassee - Dr. Alex M. Rudewicz (88) of Tallahassee, FL, died peacefully in his sleep after a short illness, on Sunday, October 6th, 2019. Born on August 3, 1931 to Catherine (Kotwila) and Anicet Rudewicz in Hartford CT, Alex graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1949, earned his B.S. from The University of Hartford in 1961 and a Doctorate in Dental Surgery from The Baltimore School of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland in 1965. Alex proudly served in the Korean War aboard the heavy cruiser USS Columbus. A devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend, Alex leaves behind daughters Kristen McKenzie of Tallahassee, FL, partner Ryan Clark, and Laura Spannaus of Brookfield, CT, husband David; grandchildren Cassie and Katy McKenzie and Alexx and Hunter Spannaus; and dearly loved nieces and nephews. Alex is predeceased by his beloved wife, Regina. A resident of Simsbury, CT for over 30 years, Alex opened his dental practice in Weatogue, CT in 1965, where he created long-lasting friendships with many patients. Alex was an active member of multiple community, professional, and veteran-related organizations including the Simsbury Lions Club, the Simsbury Theater Guild, the American and Connecticut Dental Associations, the Polish Cultural Club of Greater Hartford and the Polish Legion of American Veterans. A firm believer in the value of education and in giving back to the communities that supported him, Alex, with his wife Regina, established an annual scholarship award at U of MD School of Dentistry for fourth-year dental students, endowed the Rudewicz Polish Music Series through the Polish Studies Program at Central Connecticut State University, funded the Medal for Merit for Distinguished service to Poland, and created a commemorative wrist watch to honor the Sailor of the Quarter on the USS Columbus. Alex's legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held in CT in the spring of 2020.
