Barbara first worked part time for the Attorney General's Office in Statutory Revisions' Section and later full time. She was partnered with attorney Charles "Tom" Henderson to organize the Florida Association of Court Clerks in 1968. A local attorney stated at her retirement dinner in 2007, "Barbara was the best at herding the 67 cats of the association (Florida Court Clerks)".

Barbara was an active member of the Tallahassee BPOE 937 Elkettes and was elected as president and also elected as president of Altrusa Club.
