Carmi Curry Straughn

Carmi Curry Straughn, 94, loving known as Mawmaw, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Capital Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

Born in Noma, Florida, on January 21, 1917, she was raised in Freeport, Fl. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Carmi had lived in Quincy since 1933 where she was a very active member, Sunday School teacher, choir member, youth leader, Historical Committee Director and pianist at First Baptist Church, which she loved very much. She especially loved her Sunday School Class in her later years.

Carmi worked tirelessly in community activities for many years. She served as president of the Woman's Club, the Quincy Garden Club and PTA.

She is survived by her son Ted Straughn and wife Muriel of Quincy; her daughter Peggy Kinsaul and her husband Butch of Albany, Ga.: three grandchildren, Cliff Straughn III of Chattahoochee, FL; Teri Wood of Cumming, Ga.; Tripp Thompson of Dahlonega, Ga.; her great-grandchildren, Walker Wood, Kinsey Curry Wood, Morgan Wood, Julian Thompson, Emilee Straughn and Ella Grace Carmi Straughn and several special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 75 years, Clifton Straughn, Sr. in 2009 and her older daughter, Sherry Straughn in 2007.

Carmi loved God, her family, her friends, and her music.

The family will receive visitors at McClellan Funeral Home on Sunday, February 20, from 7:00 ? 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.
