Donald Richard Montes Obituary
Donald Richard Montes

Tallahassee - Donald Richard Montes, 67, reached the end of his life's journey on May 13, 2019 at Hospice House in Tallahassee, FL, surrounded by his family and friends.

A master carpenter for 40 years, a man who loved music, fishing and the Chicago Cubs, Don was legendary for his peaceful nature, endless patience and deep love for his four children, Kelsey, Kaitlind, Colin and Caleb.

Don was born on Jan. 31, 1952 in Chicago, IL, to Michael J. and Patricia J. O'Kerns Montes. He graduated from Proviso West High School in Hillside, IL. Learning early in life that there must be warmer places to live than Chicago, he headed South in the mid-1970's and was taken with Tallahassee, where he worked lived the rest of his life. Don's large close-knit family and enduring friendships were always at the center of his life.

Don is survived by his daughters, Kelsey Montes of Hollywood, FL and Kaitlind Montes of Longwood, FL; his sons, Colin Montes and Caleb Montes, both of Tallahassee; and his brother, Michael J. Montes, Jr. (Barbara) of Crystal Lake, IL.

A Private Celebration of Don's life will be held at a later date.

The Montes family wishes to thank his caregivers at Tapestry Memory Care on Lake Shore Drive and at Dozier Hospice House at Big Bend Hospice. Special thanks to other family members and friends who helped care for him.

Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences can be expressed at and memorial donations sent to Dozier Hospice House at Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd. #1, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
