Francis Needham "Pete" Millett Jr. Obituary
Francis Needham "Pete" Millett Jr.

Tallahassee - Francis Needham "Pete" Millett Jr. passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018. He was born on March 29, 1932 in Winchester, Massachusetts where he had to walk to school every day through the snow and it was uphill both ways.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Emily Thomas Millett, and his three children: Francis N. "Ty" Millett III and Rosemary Haynes; Richard Millett and wife, Mary Millett; Joan Millett and husband, Dale Eck; and 5 grandchildren: Jaye Millett, Thomas and Anna Millett, and Andrea and Kate Thomsen. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis N. and Deborah Millett, sister Joan Millett Coon, brother Winthrop Millett, and Daughter-in-Law Kelly Millett.

He received his B.A. from Harvard, Master's in Accounting from Alabama, and his J.D. from UNC. At Harvard he served as the manager of the football team. Pete moved the family to Tallahassee when FSU started the new Law School and offered him a faculty position. From there he worked for the Florida House and eventually became Deputy Commissioner of Education for Ralph Turlington. When he retired from the state he continued to meddle in politics by lobbying and consulting for University Hospitals.

Family was very important to him. While the kids were growing up it was swim meets or weekends at Dog Island. When grandkids entered the picture he particularly enjoyed being able to get everyone together for family vacations. The one rule was everyone had to eat dinner together.

There will be a memorial service at Unity of Tallahassee (2850 Unity Ln) at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 11th, 2018 with a reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or the Leon County Humane Society.

Breanna Green of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with their arrangements.
