Joel H. Britt GREENSBORO - Joel H. Britt, 78, a Retired Navy Lt. Cmdr., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at his home. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Mathews Britt. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Lanier-Andler Funeral Home (850-663-4343) in Chattahoochee in handling arrangements. He was born in Iowa and was a resident of Tallahassee, from an early age where he graduated from Leon High School. He attended Florida State University, the University of Miami, and the University of Florida. During his 24 years of service in the U.S. Navy he served as a radarman, electronics repair officer, communications officer and commanded MOTU-2 in Norfolk, Va. He served aboard the USS MacKenzie, USS Neches, USS Bennington and USS Annapolis. He was a private pilot and in his later years enjoyed amateur radio as a hobby; his call sign was N4JDL. He was an active member of the Thomasville Amateur Radio Club. Other survivors include a son, Page Stuart Britt (and wife Lynda) of Tallahassee and a sister, Betty Levy of Buffalo, N.Y.
