Ombra Starr Sandifer

Gainesville - Ombra Starr Sandifer passed on Saturday, January 5 while at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Ombra was born and grew up in Aiken, South Carolina. She earned her BA degree from the University of South Carolina at Aiken and her MA from the University of Arkansas. After college, she worked at UC Aiken and several professional theatres, including Seaside Music Theater in Daytona Beach. She came to Tallahassee in the fall of 2000 and worked in stage and production management at the FSU School of Theatre until May of 2018.

Ombra was known for her empathetic soul, her passion for teaching, and her dedication to and love of family, friends, and students. She made a difference in the lives of so many. She was given the nickname MOMbra by both her students and her stepsons, Noah and Gabriel, as a token of affection and in recognition of their special connection.

She is survived by husband Russell Sandifer, mother Anna Claire Williams, father Andrew Frank Taylor, stepmother Sharon Taylor, brother Paul Strickland, and a multitude of friends. Memorial services will take place in Tallahassee and Aiken in the coming weeks.
