Obituary Condolences

Jesse W. Burt

Jesse W. Burt went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2013. He moved to Tallahassee from LA (Lower Alabama) in 1930 when he was two years old. He was a member of the 1946 class of Leon High School where he was active in the band and drama activities. He entered FSU in 1946, but his college career was interrupted with a lengthy stay in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After being wounded, he spent the remainder of his service in Tokyo. While in Japan he formed a Christian choir preparing singers for the first Asian visit of Billy Grahm. Jesse returned to America and enrolled at FSU, graduating in 1956.

Jesse served the State of Florida, DOE, first in teacher recruitment and then as Director of Industry Services, recruiting new industries to the state and setting up training programs. After retirement from the DOE, he served as the senior legislative aide to Senator Sherry Walker. For the past ten years he has volunteered his expertise from Hospice to Woodturners. He will always be remembered for his humor, wit, spirituality, and his dedication to all people.

Jesse is survived by his dedicated wife, Nancy, and his three children, Jeff, Roy (wife Shelia and grandchildren Delaney and Jesse), and Elizabeth. He is also mourned by his devoted nephews, David Lee and John Reeves, and his niece, Ann Broadway (husband Ricky).

A memorial service will be held at Lafayette Presbyterian Church (Tallahassee) on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at 3:00 PM.
