Nick Sinardi Obituary

SINARDI, Nick S., 65, of Tampa, beloved son, brother, and family member, passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2014. Nick is survived by his devoted Mother, Josephine, twin brother Vince (Janice), niece Stephanie Martin (Jay) and grandniece, Jayce along with Ashley Williams and Casey Gonzalez. Nick had many challenges in his life and he overcame so many illnesses with laughter and perseverance. He was also privileged to be a liver transplant recipient. Nick was an accomplished blind athlete winning numerous awards and championships throughout his lifetime. His passion was power lifting and he was awarded many times for his blind athletic accomplishments. His proudest recognitions were in 1983 the Tampa Bay Sports Club awarded him their Amateur Athlete of the Year and then in 1993 he was also awarded the Italian Amateur Athlete of the Year by Tommy Lasorda along with many titles, awards and recognition. In 1995 he won the World Blind Athlete Championship from Perth, Australia. He was a proud Italian and loved going to the Tropicana Caf‚ most Saturdays with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan and loved listening to the Gator games on the radio once he could no longer attend them in person. Nick had a big heart for all of his family and friends as well as others less fortunate. He never let his disability get in the way of his enjoyment for life. His family meant the world to him and we gratefully acknowledge their love and support at this difficult time. A one hour visitation will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Temple Terrace on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at 11 AM with Mass following at 12 PM. Entombment will be at the Italian Club Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers include Nick J. Sinardi, Gregg Sinardi, Brian Gonzalez, Parker Clonts, Omar Sanchez and Joseph Campbell. A celebration of Nick's life will follow at the Italian Club in Ybor City at 2 PM. Donations can be made to the Church or charity of your choice.

I still cherish the memories from The Downtown Y in the early days and then at University Olympic Gym across from Tampa U, and then your guest appearances at American Fitness in Tampa and Brandon. You became my friend and remained so since 1974. A truly brave and memorable man. I continue to boast about you and your lifting prowess. Strong in more ways than most. Rest easy my friend.

Thinking back to the old days in Tampa and the family gatherings on holidays, I will always remember Nick's cheerful greetings. It's clear that he used that cheer - and a lot of courage - and made a good life for himself, despite the obstacles that he faced. My thoughts and sympathy go out to Josie, Vincent, and the rest of Nick's family and friends.

Nick always said to me, "I love you cuz" He said it with such sincerity and Nick, "I love you cuz too"! This world will never be the same without you. What an inspiration you will always be to all of us!!! Even with a grave disability and so many illnesses you were never without a smile on your handsome face!! Nothing ever stopped you from achieving your goals! You will always remain in our hearts. I know you are seated up in heaven with your favorite gator fan, Uncle Joe, having a scotch! Give him a hug from me! I love you, cuz, Kathy

Nick never let his blindness stand in the way of enjoying his life. I remember him walking with his dog all over Temple Terrace. He was also very funny. My condolences to his family.

I remember Nick walking down the beach when I was a little kid to visit us in Indian Rocks. One day I asked him how he could find us if he was blind and he just smiled and explained to me how he did it. I was always amazed by him and how much he accomplished in his life and always enjoyed talking to him when we would run into each other. He was a good person. I am so sorry for your loss. Rest in Peace, Nick
