He is a true hero to all of us and especially to the men who served under him that he led in battle and the ones that were able to return home to their families and go on with their lives with the knowledge that they served with heroes like Dick Winters. Keep his memory alive with generations that he was able to help by leading his men so that they were able to return home and raise families so that they could go forward with their lives and raise generations because of a true HERO life Major Dick Winters. He deserved the Medal of Honor.

My Grandfather Charles flew one of the planes you jumped from on D-Day and he never met you after but he saw how much of an inspiration you were to everyone. He passed away before I was born but my mother and aunts and uncles told me about how much you inspired him to be humble yet firm in his actions both during his military career and his life after the war.

Just the fact that, its over eight years after Major Winter's passing, and people are still writing condolences says much about this inspiring leader.

I was totally in awe of the portrayal of Major Winters in Band of Brothers. His leadership was far above any officer I had seen depicted in Hollywood.

He put his men before himself in matters of comfort. He put himself before his men in battle and in difficult situations. He was a TRUE leader.

I was recently headed to Hershey park on vacation back to my home state of PA. I passed the bridge dedicated to Major Winters and was unable to take a picture.

That is how I ended up here. Being a fellow Pennsylvanian his courage and leadership has inspired me for many years to always lead with compassion.

To his family I say thank you for allowing him to serve our nation. I hope one day, when my own life settles down, to read his book.

I've been in awe of WWII vets my entire life. Dad was one. But when I read Band of Brother's I was blown away by the men of Easy company and, in particular Dick Winters. I have watched Band of Brother 2 dozen times and I always tear up. What this man did for our country and indeed the world is beyond comprehension. Evidence of this is that here we are, some 8 yrs beyond his passing, and people are still posting here. A more fitting tribute I could not imagine. I salute you Dick WInters.

Yes and Amen to Brother Blalock's Nov 22nd entry. We are inspired and so thankful, this Thanksgiving and always, for these men who like Dick Winters answered a call to duty... and gave their utmost. Our nation's youngest generation, volunteer men and women, continue that tradition in smaller yet just as horrific wars. May God sustain such courage!

Am an African American veteran and I have watched The Band of brother at least 4times and every time I watch it I thank God that we had men that forge the way for us all. God bless those men for making our liberties a dream come true.

My Uncle Stanley Leck was a 101st Airborn paratrooper, 504 Regiment,died Sept 24, 1944, Holland, Operation Market Garden.
My father, Army Air Corp Sgt. John P. Leck Sr. was at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. Saw action in the South Pacific. Came home when the war was over.
Uncle Michael Leck, Sgt Major Marine Corps, wounded in Korea, served in Vietnam, Da Nang during the 60's. They were the best.

What a leader.... he is the poster child for the Greatest Generation. I have watched Band of Brothers several times all with a tear in my eye at the end where he very humbly states that he is not a hero, but he served in a company of hero's. I forced my children to watch (in the beginning) and now they too have watched several times. A great lesson in leadership, honor and duty reside within this mans character. His family and community should be very proud of him... I know I am.

I am just now learning of Mr. Winters, by watching Band of Brothers. I think his heart and courage is/was remarkable. What he did for our country and the men who fought for it. I really appreciate the leadership skills Major Dick Winters displayed while leading his men across Europe in World War II. He was right saying they had a story to tell. Easy Company's success was tthe most inspiring and awesome story I've ever read about, and easily the best war story I've seen on video. I too wish I could have met Dick Winters. And he was a good family man who worked hard and succeeded after the war.

Major Winters...you were a true man among men.. I only hope I can be half the man that you and my father were... America will miss you forever and will respect all the work you did for all of us... thank you sir and may you rest in piece.

Major Richard Winters was a true Patriot & an American hero. After the BAND OF BROTHERS series, reading everything I could about Major Winters, the 506th, and the men that served under him. I watched interviews and bought dvd's, where Major Winters talked about his experiences during WWII and his men. My 'dream' was to meet Major Winters & some of his men on the Band of Brothers tour from Curahee to Hitler's mountaintop home. What a wonderful experience that would have been!!!
The respect & admiration that I experienced for Major Winters and his men is pride, respect, and appreciation for their service. Thousands gave their lives to fight against Nazism & tyranny and many were from the 506th...true hero's!!!!

I just finished watching Band Of Brothers with my whole family. Seeing the sacrifices and everything they went through made me realize life isn't as bad as I though and that I need to live it to the fullest. Seeing the unbelievable bond that these men shared is incredible and I will forever be grateful for Easy Company! When they all pass they go and join each other in Heaven watching over us all, and hanging out with each other. May he rest in peace as well as the others. You were a great leader and an awesome person though I never knew you personally. Thank You for your service Major Richard Winters. LONG LIVE EASY COMPANY!!!!

Major Winters was one of the great soldiers that served with the airborne forces during WW II. The generations that follow may never totally understand the sacrifices and hardships endured by our soldiers especially during the Battle of the Bulge. My Dad was in the Ardennes Forest at the same time with an engineer bridging unit. He spoke very little about what he went through until near the end of his life. For all those heroes of the Greatest Generation that ended the threat of Nazism in Europe and defeated the Japanese in the Pacific, "Stay Calm.... Carry On Good and Faithful soldier." Jesus wrap your loving arms around our fallen comrades.

America has lost another one of its true heros as well as a gereat leader and gentleman. Reading and knowing of Dick Winters, as well as watching his story, "Band of Brothers" as many times as I can,I honestly can say that I, Like "Wild Bill" Guarnere, would follow him to hell and back!

My dad was in the Pacific theater during WWII, also fighting for our country. Together, we used to watch Victory at Sea on TV, and he would tell me all about the "heros" he fought alongside. He would have also been honored to "follow" Dick Winters.

Having just read Major Winters book I feel I must put a comment here. Mr Winters was a very humble man and always credited other people while demeaning the part he played in the actions he took part in. In my opinion this man was a true hero amongst other hero's and without him and them we would not have the freedom we have got now. My only wish is that I could have met him and thank him personally for my freedom.

This man was a true inspiration to all of mankind.. and he still is. He and his fellow brothers are the definitions of commitment, integrity and selflessness. May you rest in peace Mr. Winters. Easy Company was an inspiring story of the "greatest generation." My dad served USMC in the Pacific and was alsoone of the great ones, too. The intensity, horrific conditions and above and beyond courage of our American boys and men is stunning
Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and movies such as Saving Private Ryan have served as a catalyst for me, at 65, to become an avid WW II follower and immensely appreciative American.
High school curriculum should embrace the sources today so that the youth of America can "see" the horror. of war and the loss of so many 18, 19, 20 year old Americans that never got to marry their girlfriend, fix up a hot rod, go to the drive-in. The loss of these "boys" who never enjoyed the life experiences of being a father and grandfather. One can only think of their true life "experiences."
I have always desired visiting Normandy, I could never do that for fear of my emotions.
God bless all those who sacrificed years of their lives and all of their life to save our great country.

It wasn't until I served in Iraq, at age 46, that I fully understood what a tremendous strain that war is on the soul. I am sure that Dick would be proud of the current generation of young soldiers who have carried on the legacy of selfless service. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the fortitude that Dick Winters and all the "Band of Brothers" demonstrated during WWII. They continue to serve as shining examples of what ordinary men can accomplish.
