WESTPHAL, Alvin Albert

95, of Tampa went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 2, 2018. Born June 3, 1923, in Preston Lake Township, MN, and graduated from Buffalo Lake High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Upon discharge he operated his own farm in Buffalo Lake, MN. He retired to Florida in 1980. Alvin was an avid bike rider, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren and great- grandson. He was baptized, confirmed, and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. In later years, Alvin enjoyed many visits with Pastor Bill Whitehead of Family of Christ West Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Malinda; parents, Ferdinand and Bertha Westphal; sisters, Dora Westphal, Lillian Stark, Gladys Rusch; and brother, Ervin. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Lewis; granddaughters, Melissa and Victoria Lewis; great-grandson, Dontae Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Gordon Rusch; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. There will be a visitation Saturday, Sept 15 from 1-2 pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave with a funeral service to immediately follow at 2 pm, followed by interment at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
