SCUMAS, Calliope "Cal"

a founding member of St George Greek Orthodox Church, New Port Richey, Florida passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. Born in Manhattan, NY, to Daphne and Constantine Scumas, Greek emigrants from Turkey and Bulgaria, she attended the New York College of Music and Hunter College. She began her publishing career as a Manager of the Editorial and Production department of Boston Music Co. That led to Simon and Schuster, where she managed the production of children's books, and finally to Frederick Unger publishers where she oversaw production and design of literary works for the college market.Philanthropically active, she served as president of the Junior Philoptochos of Holy Trinity Cathedral Greek Orthodox Church of New York. She was also an active member of the League of Women Voters. In Florida, she served on the Interim Parish Council of St George and was a founding member of its Ladies Philoptochos, serving in several executive positions, including president. She is survived by her nieces, Daphne (Gus) Alexander, Maria (Joseph) Friedman, Stephanie Harvey and seven great-nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 10 am, Monday, January 14, 2019 at St George Greek Orthodox Church and will be followed by an 11 am funeral service. Donations may be made to St George Greek Orthodox Church.
