Frank Spencer Obituary
SPENCER, Frank B., 87, beloved father, died June 2, 2006, at his home in Tampawith his children by his side. He was born on Vinalhaven Island, Maine, and grew up in Brewer, Maine. He graduated from John Bapst High School in Bangor and the Boston School of Accounting. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, stationed on the Solomon Islands during the war. He joined the FBI in 1950 as a special agent and was assigned to Detroit. In 1963, his reassignment led him to Tampa. That year he was detached to Birmingham, Alabama, to help in the investigation of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing that killed four girls. In 2001, after the passage of 37 years, he testified in a federal trial that led to the conviction of one of the bombers. At the age of 82, he was the oldest retired special agent of the FBI to testify in a criminal prosecution. Upon his retirement from the FBI in 1977, be opened the Tampa office of the State of Florida Insurance Fraud Division as the special investigator super-visor retiring in 1987. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church for fortythree years and a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Genevieve Joan (Fasola) Spencer; and son, John A. Spencer. He is survived by a son, Frank Spencer-Molloy and his wife, Katherine; two daughters Mary de la Torre and her husband, Ernest; and Joan Spencer and her husband, Mark Clesi; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Spencer; and a sister, Regina M. Keating. He leaves five grandchildren, Anthony and Catherine de la Torre, Kristen, and Karlie Spencer and Robert SpencerMolloy, The family wishes to thank Dr. Norman Castellano, Dr. John Toole, Dr. Rand Altemose, Nancy Cuadros and Caroline Pickens. Visitation will take place 6-8 p.m Tuesday at the Marsicano Funeral Home, 4040 Henderson Blvd. A Mass will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Church.
