James Trezevant Obituary

TREZEVANT, James Cain, 72, went to be with the Lord January 25, 2005. He was a lifelong resident of Tampa. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Dolores; 12-year-old son, Robert G.; as well as four adult children, Casey Cathey (U.S. Navy Capt. Jeffery) of Washington, D.C., Suzanne Alvarez (Jorge) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and sons, Charles C. (Sonya) and Jay G. (Margaret) of Tampa; six grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Trezevant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James C. (Cozee) Trezevant Sr., and his sister, Shirley Trezevant, predeceased him. Beginning in the printing business at Hillsboro Printing, he would later become owner. With several good friends and employees, he grew the business several fold. The late Jim Walter of Tampa played a major role in Mr. Trezevant's business developments. At his death, he was owner of Tampa's Bradley Engraved Stationery. A product of local schools including Gorrie Elementary School, the Academy of Holy Names, Wilson Junior High Schoo l, Jesuit and H.B. Plant high schools, Mr. Trezevant enrolled himself in Sewanee Military Preparatory School in Tennessee, where he graduated with honors. He attended the University of Florida, graduating with a degree in journalism and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Active in many community affairs during his life, he was a former chairman of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and was instrumental in developing the new Tampa International Airport and General Aviation facility. He was a member of Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club and the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. Formerly he belonged to the University Club of Tampa and was a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla for many years. Considered a modern day renaissance man by many of his admirers, he was an avid sportsman. Among other things, golfing, fishing, and flying were his passions. He once held the Palma Ceia gold course record of 62 and won several local, state and regional golf championships. He was an avid reader and movie enthusiast. Reluctant to seek accolades, Jim Trezevant was considered the Pied Piper of South Tampa's Hawthorne Road, where he led the neighborhood children into many spur of the moment ice cream runs, swimming outings, and sporting events of USF and the Buccaneers. His commitment to education and giving back to the community, specifically children, was evident through his gifts to Berkeley Preparatory School, Bayshore Christian School, Tampa Preparatory School, University of Florida, USF, the Bolesta Center for Hearing Impaired and the Children's Home. He recently honored his deceased friend and neighbor, J Bob. Humphries, with a special scholarship at Florida State University. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 509 Twigg St., in downtown Tampa. Following a reception at the church's Parish Hall, graveside services will conclude at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Those who so desire may make contributions to Tampa Pr eparatory School for students with need, in honor of Jim Trezevant's youngest son, Robert, who in Jim's words, "kept me going for far longer than I deserved." Donations may be sent to Tampa Preparatory School Endowment Fund, c/o Office of Development, 727 W. Cass St., Tampa, FL 33606.

He was the greatest uncle and mine and Katy's protector always. He was bigger than life and my life is forever touched by his. I remember how big his hand looked to me when I was a little girl when he took my hand in his. Days at the beach, going for ice cream or to the Goody Goody for burgers and pie (always pie), flying in his plane, phone calls and "I love you, honey". I miss you and love you Uncle Jimmie.I always will.

God's peace, Betsy

MY Uncle Jimmy was the best of the best. He devoted himself to me so many time since he told me of the death of my dad,Col.Charles S. Bryant in 1968. He took it upon himself to be the DAD I never had since I was 13 years old. HE WAS THE GREATEST AND I loved all of his family and have missed them all so much for so many years d/t an illness I have,so have not been able to se my extended family! I can only think that Tampa will not be the same ever w/o him around. I have been so lucky to be able to talk with him by phone a few times a month for many years as he has been so wonderful with me and caring about me,esp.when I am in the hosp.As a teen he did so much with me from buying me my favorite purple bike to taking me to DisneyLand& so much more I wish I could write about.I am so happy he never forgot me evn growing up!I cherished the surprising mail I would get from him, the best being Cuban sandwichews and Goody Goody hamburgers he sent me not long ago in NC.Damn They were good! I loved him so as I still do. I find it like a devine intervention he passed on the day my MOM (his sister)did last year. So it is comforting to know they are all togeather in Heaven. I am sure he is running the show though, if you know what I mean!

May all the Family he left find peace and understanding with his death. I know he is surely missed, esp.in my heart and soul. But he best be looking down on us all showing us his Guarding Angel side.(i promise he had one.)

I LOVE YOU UNCLE JIMMY!,And darn MISS YOU!

LOVE ME,KATY B. (ps.save a place for me at the table)

PEACE!
