MORGAN, Richard B.

90, passed away at home January 9, 2019. Born in Hartford, Connecticut to John and Margaret Ryan Morgan, he attended Syracuse University and was an Air Force veteran. Following his discharge in 1955 he settled in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and began his life-long insurance career with Financial Life Insurance Company. There he met and married Joan Gandy, the love of his life. In 1973, he moved his family to Tampa and to a position at Founders Life Insurance Company, later serving as President. The family was active at Christ the King Parish and School. A sportsman, he brought the game of squash to Miami, played minor league baseball and at age 55 was ranked 18th in the world following the 50 and over AAU racket ball tournament. With four active children, he rarely missed their events involving six sports. Business then moved him on to serve as President of Defender Life in Mobile, Alabama then on to Loyal American Life in Raleigh, N. Carolina and Cincinnati, Ohio, and his retirement. He was inducted into the Employee Benefit Advisor, International Marketing Hall of Fame, earned the Chartered Life Underwriter designation and was a Life Office Management Associate. Following his retirement, he and Joan moved to South Pasadena closer to Joan's work as Chancellor at the Diocese of St. Petersburg.

Preceded in death by his grandson, Blake, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan; sons, Jeff, wife Cindy; Stephen; David, wife Crickette; daughter, Kathleen, husband Josh; and grandchildren, Caitlin, Caroline, John, Brody, Kolby, Skye Richard and Myles. Private services will be held for the family at St. John Vianney Church. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date. The family is grateful for the comfort and care provided by the orange team of Suncoast Hospice Empath Health. In lieu of flowers, donations to the or those personally close to Richard will be gratefully received.
