LEVEROCK, Richard Frank

born in St. Petersburg on August 9, 1932 and passed away on January 7, 2019 in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, at his home. Richard, always known as Rocky, was a well-known local restaurateur along with his siblings after assuming ownership of Leverock's Oyster Bar from their founding parents, Bertha and John Leverock Sr. Leverock's operated as a single restaurant for 42 years built on family owned oyster beds in Tampa Bay. On any given night, Rocky could be found tending bar and entertaining locals at the popular gathering place while his sister, Alice Leverock Thomas ran the front end and late brother, John Jr. commanded the kitchen. While in St. Petersburg, Rocky had an active social life and was considered quite charming.

In the 50's, Rocky served in the U.S. Navy, honing his skills running the pool hall and entertainment activities. This guy loved a good prank and had a very dry wit that could fool everyone into thinking he was always serious. After retirement 25 years ago, Rocky moved to Lake Panasoffkee and settled into the good life. He met his longtime loving companion, Donna Combee, and found peace. They shared a great friendship even though they would not speak for days if her Seminoles beat his Gators.

He used to feed wild red shouldered hawks on his balcony deck and each season would welcome the next generation. It was really something to see. He enjoyed boating, bass fishing and annoying gators that would dare sunbathe on his beloved lakefront. Each year he hosted a July 4th picnic where the local community always started the day by saluting our flag and later enjoying fireworks.

In addition to his sister Alice, Rocky leaves three children, Linda Leverock McCann (Steve), Laurell Leverock Kimbrough, and Richard Leverock Jr. (Katy). There are also two granddaughters, Tiffany McCann and Kelly Shockey (Pat); and two great-granddaughters, Claire and Cassandra Shockey. Many more members of the extended Leverock family live in Florida.

We will celebrate his life well-lived on Saturday, January 19th, 12 noon, at Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church. 589 N. CR 470, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33538-6057. The family welcomes you.
