BELL, Robert Lester "Bob" 86, of Largo, FL. passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 of cancer while at home with his wife, Arlene, by his side. He was born in Biddeford, ME in December 1934. Bob graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco, ME in 1953. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Marines, where he held the rank of CPL. during the Korean conflict. Bob was honorably discharged in August of 1956. Bob married Arlene Louise Tucker March 24, 1956. Bob and Arlene moved to Connecticut where they started their family. He worked as a Produce Manager at Stop n Shop. Later, he changed careers to work as an Inspector for the State of Connecticut. After 22 years, he retired as the Director of Occupational Licensing in the Department of Consumer Protection for the State of Connecticut. He was a member of The Elks, American Legion, and he was very involved with community activities in Connecticut and Florida. He held the title of President of the Association of Pointe West Mobile Park for over 12 years. In addition, he was a member of The Friendship Community Church in Florida. He had a passion for fishing, boating, golfing, darts and tinkering in his shed. He loved to help others. Bob had many items available for friends in that shed. He was always building friendships, loved his custom painted golf cart, telling and emailing jokes. He was known for his football pools in multiple states. In addition, he was famous for his peanut butter fudge and was kind enough to share it with others (not the recipe though). Friends knew that when walking by his home and if they needed a Pepsi, beer or bottle of water he had it available outside in his mini fridge. Bob was predeceased by his eldest son, Kevin Lee Bell in May 1986. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Bell of Largo, FL; daughter, Laurie Vertefeuille and her husband, Steve Vertefeuille of Chester, VT and his son, Jeff Bell and wife, Margaret Macwilliams of Watertown, MA; and brother-in-law, Norman Tucker of Duxbury, MA. He has three grandchildren, Joshua Bell of Enfield, CT, Andrew Kevin Vertefeuille/Samantha Norris of Milford, NH, and Samantha Mary Vertefeuille/Brendon Bills of Londonderry, VT. He has three great-grandchildren, Audry Rose Vertefeuille, Avery Autumn Vertefeuille, and Grayson Norris-Vertefeuille. Bob and Arlene would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft/Pinecrest for their special care and heartfelt concern during Bob's illness. There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bob's honor to Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health (Lavender Team). Serenity Funeral Home
