Russell Smith Obituary

RUSSELL D. SMITH Russell D. Smith, 85, of Sebring, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008. He was born August 3, 1922, to Russell E. and Clara (Nivarlet) Smith in Decorah, Iowa. He had been a resident of Sebring since 1985 coming from Gallatin, Tenn. He worked as a sales manager for Butler Manufacturing Steel Building for 35 years and was a veteran of the US Army during W.W.II. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel with his wife and was a member of the Golf Hammock Country Club. He was also a member of the Emmanuel Church of Christ of Sebring. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary K. Smith. He is survived by daughters, Constance (Tom) Dagon, Indianapolis, Ind., Kathleen L. (Russell) Chard, Lakeland, Fla., Mary Jo (Eugene) DeBolt, Westley Chapel, Fla., Jill Anne (Richard) Wilson, Mango, Fla., Kelly Sue (William) Sparks, Dallas, Ga.; sons, R. Steven (Jackie) Smith, New Port Richey, F; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Beverly Hodge and sons, Mark and Scott Smith. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ with a funeral service following at 2 p.m., with Rev. Barbara Laucks officiating. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Good Shepherd Hospice and the Salvation Army.
