Frank ALFONSO Obituary

ALFONSO Jr., Frank

of Terra Ceia, passed away peacefully July 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. (Macho) and Tomasa (China). Frank is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Yvonne; sons, Darren (Becky) and Kenny (Melissa); and their mother, Olga Garcia; grandchildren, Jessy and Michael; brother, Jerry (Yolanda); nephew, Dennis; niece, Karen; uncle, Luciano Alfonso; brother-in-law, Henry Lewis; sister-in-law, Marguerite Winters; and many cousins and dear friends.

Frank was born in New York City, NY, but lived the majority of his life in Tampa before retiring and moving to Terra Ceia Island. A graduate of Jefferson High School, he earned his BA in History from the University of Tampa and his MPA from Ole Miss.

Frank grew up in the community of Ybor City with loving memories from the Boy's Club at Cuscaden Park playing baseball as a youth. He played varsity basketball in high school and served as Lieutenant Colonel for the school's ROTC, the highest rank achievable. Known for his skills as a bowler and ping pong player, Frank was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a founding member of the Blue Bayou Hunt Club in Ocala. The friends Frank made during his youth remained his friends throughout his entire life.

Frank dedicated his 33-year career to public service. He started his career as a teacher at West Tampa Jr. High, then moved on to the Division of Welfare and was instrumental in implementing many of the War On Poverty programs. Next he served as the Court Administrator for the 13th Judicial Circuit where he started the Juvenile Diverson Program and the Citizens' Dispute Center. He ended his distinguished career at the State Attorney's Office where he created and directed the Victims Assistance Program.

Frank's accomplishments in both his career and as a volunteer positively affected the lives of countless people in the Tampa area and continue to do so to this day. His legacy is a testament to the extraordinary life he lived as a life long Democrat.

A celebration of life in Frank's honor will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations for The Butterfly House, obaat.org

My sincerest condolences go out to your family. My Father and Mother, Joseph and Agnes Cubero were very dear friends of Frank and Olga back in the 1960's before they both were killed in a car accident in 1972. I'm sure they are all together now and the good news is we will see them again. God Bless you all and may the memories of a lifetime of happiness see you through this difficult time.

Darren and Kenny,

My heart breaks for you both and your family during this time of loss. There is nothing to make the hurt go away but may you delight in all of the good memories you've created over the years.

Unfortunately for me I didn't know your dad well (saw him mostly at the baseball fields) but I do know he has raised two amazing sons!
I wish I could give you both a big hug...

With all my love,
Kristin Gunn
